Vennila Adopts Green Connect Biogas for Sustainable Cooking Fuel and Carbon Reduction

Vennila – Managing Director Mercury Chemical Industries, Salem, Tamilnadu, has taken an assertive step towards sustainable living by installing a Green Connect biogas plant in her home. With nearly 2kg of food waste, including fruit and vegetable peels, fed into the plant daily, the biogas produced serves as a cleaner and renewable cooking fuel for her family.

The anaerobic digestion process in the biogas plant converts organic waste into biogas, reducing the reliance on conventional fossil fuels like LPG and minimizing the household’s carbon footprint. By utilizing biogas for cooking, harmful greenhouse gas emissions are mitigated, contributing to a cleaner atmosphere.

The Green Connect biogas plant also plays a crucial role in waste management by diverting organic waste from landfills. This process prevents the release of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere.

Approximately 0.5kg of methane emissions are neutralized for every 7kg of food waste processed through the biogas plant.

Annually, the 730kg of food waste diverted by Mrs. Vennila’s household results in an impressive 45kg(approx) of methane emissions neutralized. This sustainable waste management approach not only benefits the environment but also promotes a greener and more sustainable future.

Mrs. Vennila’s initiative sets an inspiring example for the community, highlighting the potential of biogas technology as an eco-friendly cooking fuel and waste management solution. Through such small yet meaningful actions, households can actively contribute to carbon reduction and environmental preservation. The success of the Green Connect biogas plant in Salem paves the way for a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
