JSS AHER Institute Spearheads Sustainable Initiatives with Green Connect Biogas Plants

In 2023, St. Peter’s College in Avadi, Chennai took a significant step towards environmental sustainability by installing a Green Connect biogas plant capable of processing 30 kg of food waste per day. The initiative, spearheaded by Mrs. Rani, the Head of Department at St. Peter’s College, reflects the institution’s commitment to fostering eco-friendly practices and contributing positively to its surrounding environment.

The decision to partner with Green Connect stemmed from a dual purpose – to actively participate in the NAAC accreditation process and to champion environmental stewardship. Prior to installation, the college thoroughly researched Green Connect’s offerings, addressing concerns regarding services, maintenance, and product specifications. Green Connect promptly addressed these queries, ensuring complete satisfaction before the installation proceeded.

The biogas plant, aptly named GASTODAY version 2.0, boasts a high-pressure, portable FRP model capable of being installed both above and below ground as per customer convenience. With a biogas production capacity of 3 cubic meters and equivalent to 1.5 LPG cylinders, the plant offers a sustainable energy source for the college canteen and outlets. Moreover, the residual slurry generated serves as nutrient-rich fertilizer for the college garden, completing the eco-friendly cycle.

St. Peter’s College’s adoption of the Green Connect biogas plant underscores its dedication to integrating sustainability into its operations while simultaneously contributing to a cleaner, greener future for its community. This initiative stands as a testament to the institution’s proactive approach towards environmental responsibility and sets a commendable example for educational institutions nationwide.
