Thangavel Spinning Mill’s Sustainable Initiative with Green Connect Biogas Plant

Thangavel Spinning Mill in Bommidi has taken a significant step towards sustainability by installing a Green Connect biogas plant in 2015. With a capacity of 5 cubic meters, the plant is designed to process 50 kg of food waste daily from the mill’s canteen, effectively transforming it into a valuable resource.

Thangavel Spinning Mill approached Green Connect, a company known for its expertise in environmental waste management solutions, seeking a sustainable way to manage their canteen waste. The motivation behind this initiative was not only to reduce waste but also to harness it as an alternative energy source.

The installed biogas plant has been a remarkable success. The 50 kg of food waste fed into the plant daily generates biogas equivalent to 2.5 kg of LPG per day. This renewable energy is used to fuel the canteen, providing a reliable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional cooking fuels. The consistent performance of the biogas plant highlights the effectiveness of this technology in managing organic waste and generating clean energy.

Beyond energy production, the biogas plant produces a nutrient-rich slurry as a byproduct. Thangavel Spinning Mill has put this to good use by utilizing it for gardening purposes within their premises. This not only enhances the greenery of the mill’s environment but also promotes a circular approach to waste management where every output is repurposed beneficially.

The collaboration between Thangavel Spinning Mill and Green Connect is a testament to how industries can adopt sustainable practices. By transforming waste into energy and using byproducts for environmental enhancement, the mill sets a positive example for other industries to follow. This initiative not only supports the mill’s environmental goals but also contributes to broader efforts in promoting sustainability and reducing carbon footprints.
