Amma Unavagam Goes Green: Biogas Plants Installed at Avadi and Thirumullaivoyal Branches

In a significant move towards sustainable food waste management, Amma Unavagam has taken a green initiative at its Avadi and Thirumullaivoyal branches. Each location has been equipped with one GASTODAY biogas plant supplied by Green Connect, capable of processing 2 kg of food waste per day. These compact, in-house biogas systems convert daily kitchen waste into clean cooking gas, which is directly used in the respective kitchens. This not only reduces the burden of food waste disposal but also cuts down on LPG usage, making operations more sustainable and cost-efficient.

This initiative is a model for other Amma Unavagam centers across Tamil Nadu. With hundreds of such canteens serving affordable meals every day, widespread adoption of biogas technology could lead to massive environmental and economic benefits. Why In-House Biogas at Amma Unavagam?
Manages Daily Food Waste Efficiently

  1. Generates Free Cooking Gas
  2. Reduces Carbon and Methane Emissions
  3. Supports Tamil Nadu’s Clean City Mission
  4. Promotes Self-Sufficient, Eco-Friendly Kitchens

We appreciate the efforts of both branches for leading the way in embracing sustainable solutions. With simple steps like these, public kitchens can set a powerful example of circular economy in action.
