Green Connect

Eco-Friendly Greywater Treatment at Le Yercaud Resort

Green Connect has recently undertaken a commendable project aimed at treating the graywater (Gray water is wastewater generated from sources other than toilets, such as sinks, showers, and laundry) produced by the picturesque Le Yercaud Resort. This initiative showcases the organization’s commitment to sustainable, eco-friendly solutions for water management. The project’s success lies in its innovative use of DEWATS (Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System) technology, which not only preserves precious resources but also operates without the need for electricity.

At the heart of this project is a meticulously designed system capable of treating 1000 liters of greywater, a design skillfully crafted by one of Green Connect’s own experts. To implement this design, prefabricated tanks were supplied and swiftly installed, taking just a week for erection and commissioning. Remarkably, the entire system is installed underground, minimizing visual impact and harmonizing with the resort’s lush surroundings.

The DEWATS technology employed here is a three-step process that relies on natural mechanisms. It begins with anaerobic digestion, where microorganisms break down organic matter, followed by aeration. During the aeration process, the utilization of canna Indica plants helps absorb the nutrient content from the gray water, facilitating additional purification. Finally, UV treatment is utilized to ensure the water reaches the desired clarity. The result is pristine, treated water that aligns with the highest environmental standards.

This treated water finds a valuable purpose in the resort’s gardens, where it nourishes the lush greenery, creating a sustainable cycle of water use. Importantly, Green Connect conducts rigorous testing on the treated water, ensuring that it meets all the necessary parameters set by the Pollution Control Board (PCB). This includes tests for Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), pH levels, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). The successful compliance with these standards underscores the project’s effectiveness and its contribution to environmental preservation.

The Green Connect project at Le Yercaud Resort serves as an inspiring model for responsible water management in the hospitality industry. By harnessing the power of DEWATS technology and a commitment to sustainability, this initiative not only benefits the environment but also showcases how businesses can integrate eco-friendly practices into their operations.
