Salem Resident Adopts Biogas to Power Sustainable Lifestyle

Chandrasekar, a passionate advocate for sustainability from Salem, has partnered with Green Connect to manage kitchen waste and convert it into cooking gas. Committed to reducing environmental impact, Chandrasekar’s household generates approximately 10 kg of food waste daily. Green Connect installed a biogas plant capable of processing this waste, producing enough cooking gas for 2.5 to 3 hours of daily use.

This setup enables the family to save around 15 kg of LPG per month, significantly reducing their reliance on fossil fuels. However, for Chandrasekar, the primary motivation goes beyond cost savings—it’s about embracing a sustainable lifestyle.

In addition to the biogas system, their home is equipped with solar panels for electricity generation, further showcasing their commitment to renewable energy. The holistic approach to sustainability is completed by a home garden, nourished by the bio-slurry produced from the biogas plant. This nutrient-rich slurry acts as a natural fertilizer, enhancing plant growth and closing the loop on waste management evenly across the pipeline network.

Chandrasekar’s journey exemplifies how individual households can adopt clean energy solutions and promote environmental stewardship. By utilizing both biogas and solar power, the family is significantly reducing their carbon footprint while contributing to a greener future.

Their efforts are a powerful reminder of how everyday choices, such as managing food waste and using renewable energy, can lead to a more sustainable and self-sufficient lifestyle.
