Simpsons Installs 300kg Biogas Plant in Partnership with Green Connect and Eco Care Technologies

In 2018, Simpsons & Co. Ltd., a pioneering diesel engine manufacturer based in Chennai, collaborated with Green Connect and Eco Care Technologies to install a 300 kg food waste biogas plant at its facility. Established in 1840, Simpsons is a leading name in India’s automotive and industrial sectors. This biogas plant was introduced to sustainably manage the food waste generated daily at the Simpsons canteen, which serves meals to hundreds of employees and produces approximately 300 kg of food waste each day.

Through Eco Care Technologies and Green Connect’s “Green Biogas” system, this food waste is converted into biogas, offering a sustainable energy source. The plant produces up to 30 cubic meters of biogas daily, equivalent to about 15 kg of LPG, allowing Simpsons to save around 150 kg of LPG each month.

Additionally, this biogas plant offsets approximately 38 tons of carbon dioxide annually, contributing significantly to reducing Simpsons’ carbon footprint and aiding environmental conservation efforts.

The system includes a Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) digester and a gas holder in the form of a balloon to store biogas. The process also yields bio-slurry, a nutrient-rich byproduct that is used as fertilizer in Simpsons’ gardens, promoting a zero-waste model.

This initiative reflects Simpsons’ commitment to sustainability and resource efficiency, showcasing the impactful role of biogas technology in industrial waste management, energy generation, and environmental stewardship.
