100 KG/Day GASTODAY Biogas Project for Mr. Karthikeya Sivasenapathy | SKCRF, Kangayam

Events / By Green Connect

At Kangayam, the conservation of indigenous cattle is closely connected with traditional farming practices and the natural agricultural ecosystem of the Kongu region. As these practices continue to evolve, there is also an opportunity to use modern technology to create greater value from the resources generated within the same ecosystem.

Mr. Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, Managing Trustee of the Senaapathy Kangayam Cattle Research Foundation (SKCRF), has been actively associated with the conservation and promotion of the indigenous Kangayam cattle breed, sustainable livestock-based farming and environmental initiatives in the region. His work also contributes to the preservation of traditional farming practices and the Korangadu ecosystem.

With a cattle-based farming environment comes a continuous generation of cow dung. Rather than treating this material only as a conventional farm waste, the requirement was to develop a practical solution that could manage the dung while also creating useful outputs for the farm and its surrounding agricultural activities.

This requirement brought the project to Puvitham Private Limited, where our biogas solution was selected to convert the available cattle waste into renewable energy and organic manure. The collaboration focuses on integrating waste management into the existing cattle and agricultural ecosystem instead of treating it as a separate activity.

As part of this collaboration, Puvitham installed a 100 KG/DAY GASTODAY Biogas System at Kangayam, designed to process up to 100 kg of cow dung every day through anaerobic digestion.

100 kg of cow dung/day processing capacity

4 m³ of biogas generated per day

Equivalent to ~2 kg of LPG per day

200 litres of organic manure generated per day

6 tonnes of organic manure generated per month

Only ~100 sq. ft. of installation space required

0.75 kW power requirement

One operator can manage the routine operation

Only 1–2 hours of daily operational involvement

The cattle generate the raw material. The system converts that organic waste into renewable energy and nutrient-rich manure. The energy can support daily requirements, while the manure can return to agriculture and contribute to soil enrichment.

This creates a practical circular resource model, where cattle waste is no longer viewed simply as something to be disposed of, but as a resource that can support energy generation and sustainable agriculture.

Through, Puvitham Private Limited continues to develop and implement practical organic waste management solutions that connect waste, energy and agriculture in a more sustainable way.
