Puvitham Private Limited, in collaboration with the National Agro Foundation and with support from Neuland Laboratories Limited, has successfully implemented a high-pressure biogas pilot project for dairy farmers, with deployments across Hyderabad and Chengalpattu.
As part of the initiative, a total of 25 high-pressure biogas units have been deployed to support farming households with decentralized renewable energy solutions and sustainable livestock waste management. The pilot focuses on converting cow dung generated from dairy farming into clean biogas for cooking and other household energy requirements.
Each 1 cubic meter high-pressure biogas unit is designed to process approximately 25 kg of cow dung per day, converting the organic waste into renewable biogas while also producing nutrient rich organic slurry that can be utilized for agricultural applications and soil enrichment. The high-pressure biogas model has been developed to provide a more consistent and efficient supply of biogas, making it a practical alternative to conventional cooking fuels in rural and semi-rural environments. By generating energy directly from locally available livestock waste, the system helps farmers reduce their dependence on commercial LPG while creating value from agricultural waste.
The pilot deployment has demonstrated measurable environmental and economic benefits. In Hyderabad, five farming households were supported through the installation of five high pressure biogas units, helping save approximately 12 LPG cylinders annually and offset around 4 tonnes of CO2 per year. The organic slurry generated from the process can also be used as a natural soil input, supporting sustainable farming practices. With a total of 25 units deployed across Hyderabad and Chengalpattu, the pilot provides an opportunity to assess the technology under different agricultural and climatic conditions.
The project will generate practical field insights into biogas production, system performance, farmer adoption, fuel savings, and slurry utilization. The initiative brings together technical innovation, corporate sustainability support, and the needs of farming communities to create practical renewable energy solutions. The collaboration with the National Agro Foundation and support from Neuland Laboratories Limited further strengthens the project’s focus on sustainable dairy farming and rural energy access.
The 25-unit pilot marks an important step for Puvitham Private Limited in scaling high-pressure biogas technology and demonstrating how livestock waste can be converted into clean energy and valuable agricultural resources.
