NIFT-TEA College Adopts Biogas for Sustainable Energy

NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion, located in Tiruppur, is renowned for its focus on textile education and innovation. With a strong commitment to sustainability, the college recently approached Green Connect to install a biogas plant on campus as part of its eco-friendly initiatives. This move reflects the institution’s efforts to minimize waste and promote renewable energy.

Green Connect provided the college with a biogas plant capable of processing up to 10 kg of food waste daily, sourced from the canteen. This food waste is converted into approximately 1 cubic meter of biogas, which is equivalent to 0.5 kg of LPG. Over the course of a month, the college can save up to 15 kg of LPG, reducing its reliance on traditional cooking fuels and cutting its carbon footprint.

In addition to producing biogas for cooking, the plant generates digestate as a byproduct. This nutrient-rich organic material is used as a natural fertilizer for the college’s gardens, promoting a circular waste management approach. The installation of the biogas plant also fulfills a key criterion for NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) accreditation, enhancing the college’s sustainability credentials while benefiting both the environment and the institution. With the plant contributing to cost savings, waste management, and green energy production, NIFT-TEA College has taken a significant step toward a more sustainable future.
