Advancing Rural Energy Through 20 Biogas Pilot Deployments Across Bihar and Tamil Nadu

Events / By Green Connect

As part of this initiative, Puvitham Private Limited is taking its advanced biogas technology from innovation to field deployment through 20 pilot installations across Bihar and Tamil Nadu, with 10 pilot locations in Bihar and 10 pilot locations in Tamil Nadu.

These pilots are designed to evaluate the technology under diverse rural, climatic, and operational conditions while generating real-world data for further technology development and scale up. The biogas system is designed to convert agricultural and organic waste into reliable cooking gas and nutrient-rich bio-fertilizer. The technology focuses on improving methane yield, simplifying slurry processing, and providing a practical plug and play solution that can be operated within rural communities.

The pilot deployments will focus on three key areas: optimizing biogas yield and validating continuous gas production under varying seasonal conditions; evaluating the value of processed bio-slurry for soil enrichment and its potential to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers; and improving last-mile adoption through community-led operation and local support networks. In Bihar and Tamil Nadu, the pilot projects will be implemented in collaboration with local Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and through the Village Knowledge Centre (VKC) network supported by MSSRF. This approach is intended to ensure that the technology is not only technically effective but also practical, accessible, and suitable for adoption by rural families and farming communities The 20-pilot deployment represents an important step in Puvitham Private Limited’s effort to scale decentralized biogas technology beyond individual installations and establish a sustainable model for rural waste-to-energy applications.

The field data generated through these pilots will provide valuable insights into system performance, methane generation, slurry utilization, operational requirements, and community adoption. With the support of Social Alpha and MSSRF, this initiative aims to demonstrate how agricultural and organic waste can be transformed into clean cooking energy and valuable agricultural inputs. The project further strengthens Puvitham Private Limited’s commitment to advancing biogas technology, supporting rural livelihoods, and developing scalable solutions for sustainable energy and agricultural waste management.
